Itanagar, June 17, 2026: Arunachal Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister Chowna Mein and Assam Minister for Panchayati Raj and Rural Development, Excise, Border Protection and Development Atul Bora held a high-level meeting in Itanagar on Wednesday to enhance inter-state cooperation and strengthen coordination between the two neighbouring states.
The meeting was attended by senior officials of the Excise Departments of both Assam and Arunachal Pradesh. Discussions focused on improving collaboration in excise administration, strengthening enforcement mechanisms, preventing illicit trade, enhancing revenue management, and developing a roadmap for future cooperation through joint initiatives and periodic reviews.
Sharing details of the meeting, Deputy Chief Minister Chowna Mein described the discussions as productive and forward-looking. He said both sides exchanged ideas on best practices and explored measures to address emerging challenges in the excise sector. Emphasising the importance of institutional partnerships, Mein noted that Assam and Arunachal Pradesh, as neighbouring states with shared interests and responsibilities, must continue to work together through regular dialogue and coordinated action.

He expressed confidence that the deliberations would deepen the spirit of cooperation between the two states and contribute to more efficient, transparent and people-centric governance. Mein also thanked Atul Bora and the Assam delegation for their participation and reaffirmed his commitment to continued collaboration in areas of mutual interest.
Leading the Assam delegation, Minister Atul Bora said the meeting was held under the guidance of Assam Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma. He highlighted the strong bond of friendship and cooperation between Assam and Arunachal Pradesh under the leadership of Chief Ministers Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma and Pema Khandu.
According to Bora, the discussions extended beyond excise administration and included broader issues of regional cooperation and mutual development. He thanked Deputy Chief Minister Chowna Mein and the Government of Arunachal Pradesh for their warm hospitality and constructive engagement during the meeting.
Earlier, Bora remarked that the longstanding friendship between Assam and Arunachal Pradesh continues to serve as a strong foundation for greater collaboration, shared growth and regional development.
The meeting reflects the growing commitment of both state governments to strengthen interstate coordination, improve governance systems, and address common challenges through cooperative mechanisms. Officials believe that enhanced collaboration between the two states will not only improve administrative efficiency but also contribute to sustainable development and stronger regional integration in Northeast India.
