Mary Kom began by offering an apology, saying that many people were confused by her recent comments circulating on social media. She clarified that her marriage was not unsuccessful from the beginning, stating that everything was fine for several years until circumstances changed later when trust completely broke down.

Referring to her divorce and a press release circulated against her in April 2025, Mary Kom said that even after those developments she chose not to make any public or media statements, maintaining dignity and restraint. She expressed regret that her remarks were misinterpreted and spread negatively on social media.

The boxing icon stressed that she is not against youth football culture or the football fraternity. “I am a boxer, but I love football from my heart and enjoy playing it,” she said, adding that her comments were never meant to target any sport or players.

Clarifying further, Mary Kom said her remarks were not directed at sportsmen or players who start their journeys from grassroots levels. She emphasised that only those who work hard with determination and sacrifice go on to become legends like Sunil Chhetri or Baichung Bhutia. She explained that her comments stemmed from personal experiences and were linked to her former partner’s claims about sacrificing his football career.

Mary Kom issued a sincere apology to those who felt hurt or disappointed by her words, particularly members of the male community. She underlined that her statement was never meant for all men, nor was it intended to insult, demean or belittle anyone.

Describing the moment as emotionally overwhelming, Mary Kom said years of suppressed pain, depression and a sense of betrayal surfaced at once. She urged people not to view her statement as a teaching, ideology or concept, clarifying that she does not promote any negative thought or narrative.

Concluding her message, the boxer described the incident as an emotional outburst of a human being who had been carrying pain for a long time. She appealed for the continued love, blessings and support of the people of India, saying she wishes to keep contributing to the nation and achieve more for the country through boxing.
