Aizawl, June 17, 2026: Chief Minister Pu Lalduhoma on Wednesday said that cleanliness and hygiene remain among the qualities most frequently appreciated by visitors to Mizoram, while urging citizens to continue preserving the state's reputation for maintaining a clean and healthy environment.

The Chief Minister made the remarks while attending a programme at Thenzawl where the Formosa Foundation donated a Garbage Tipper to Joint YMA Thenzawl to strengthen waste management and sanitation efforts in the town.
The handover programme was held at the Joint YMA Hall, Bazar Veng, Thenzawl, in the presence of Pi Baryl Vanneihsangi, MLA, community leaders, representatives of the Formosa Foundation and members of the Young Mizo Association (YMA).
Addressing the gathering, Pu Lalduhoma said visitors to Mizoram consistently commend the state's cleanliness, orderly surroundings and hygienic environment. He noted that these qualities have become an important part of Mizoram's identity and contribute significantly to its positive image both within and outside the region.
The Chief Minister stressed that cleanliness is not only a matter of public health but also an essential factor in promoting tourism and enhancing the state's reputation. He urged local communities to continue working together to maintain high standards of sanitation and environmental responsibility.
Referring to Thenzawl's growing status as a tourism hub, Pu Lalduhoma observed that the town has become one of Mizoram's most popular destinations, attracting increasing numbers of visitors from across the country. He said the town's natural beauty, pleasant environment and tourism potential make it important to maintain effective waste management systems.
According to the Chief Minister, the Garbage Tipper donated by the Formosa Foundation will play a significant role in supporting local sanitation efforts and helping keep Thenzawl clean and attractive for residents and visitors alike.
He also expressed gratitude to the Formosa Foundation for its continued contribution to the welfare and development of Mizoram. He said partnerships between community organisations, non-governmental institutions and local authorities are essential for achieving sustainable development goals.
Speaking at the programme, Pi Baryl Vanneihsangi, MLA, highlighted the close link between cleanliness, public health and tourism. She said Thenzawl receives a large number of tourists every year and therefore requires efficient waste management systems to maintain its appeal.
The MLA emphasized that cleanliness contributes to the attractiveness of a destination and helps create a welcoming environment for visitors. She added that proper waste management is essential if Thenzawl is to continue serving as a model town for other communities in Mizoram.

The programme was chaired by Pu Lalmuanpuia, President of Joint YMA Thenzawl. The welcome address was delivered by Pu Samuel Lalrinpuia, Secretary of Vantawng Group YMA, while Pu Jonathan Lalremruata, Chairman of the Formosa Foundation, also addressed the gathering.
Mr Clinton Sherwood, Legal Advisor of the Formosa Foundation, oversaw the formal handover of the Garbage Tipper.
The donation is expected to enhance the waste collection and disposal capabilities of Joint YMA Thenzawl and support ongoing efforts to maintain the town's reputation as one of Mizoram's cleanest and most attractive tourist destinations. Community leaders welcomed the initiative, describing it as a valuable contribution toward building a cleaner, healthier and more sustainable future for Thenzawl.
