A comprehensive review meeting was jointly chaired by Assam Chief Secretary Ravi Kota, IAS, and Director General of Police Harmeet Singh, IPS, to assess the readiness of various departments and agencies ahead of the festival, which is scheduled to be held from June 22 to June 26.

According to officials, the meeting focused on preparations for the large influx of pilgrims and devotees expected to visit Maa Kamakhya Dham during the five-day spiritual event. Ambubachi Mahayog, often referred to as the "Mahakumbh of the East," attracts lakhs of devotees, saints, ascetics, and tourists from across India and abroad every year.

The review covered a wide range of areas, including crowd management, law and order arrangements, security deployment, CCTV surveillance, traffic regulation, parking facilities, and pedestrian movement management. Officials discussed measures to ensure smooth access to the temple complex while preventing overcrowding and maintaining public safety.

Preparations at pilgrim camps established at Kamakhya Railway Station, Pandu Port, and other designated locations were also reviewed. Authorities assessed arrangements for accommodation, drinking water supply, sanitation facilities, and public convenience measures aimed at providing a comfortable experience for devotees.

Healthcare preparedness formed another key focus area during the meeting. Officials reviewed emergency medical services, ambulance deployment, food safety measures, and the availability of healthcare personnel to respond promptly to any emergencies during the festival period.

The state administration is also working to ensure uninterrupted power supply, adequate illumination along major routes, and transportation support, particularly for elderly pilgrims and differently-abled devotees. Special attention is being given to enhancing accessibility and ensuring a hassle-free pilgrimage experience.

Disaster preparedness and emergency response mechanisms were also discussed in detail. Authorities reviewed fire safety arrangements and the deployment of personnel from the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), and other emergency services to handle any unforeseen situations.

In addition, officials examined the progress of ongoing infrastructure works, temporary facilities, signages, barricading, and other logistical arrangements necessary for managing the expected crowds.

The Chief Secretary emphasized the importance of seamless inter-departmental coordination and directed all concerned departments to complete pending works within stipulated timelines. The objective, he said, is to ensure safe, orderly, and efficient arrangements for the thousands of pilgrims expected to attend the Mahayog.

With only days remaining before the commencement of Ambubachi Mahayog 2026, the state government has intensified preparations to ensure that the annual religious congregation is conducted smoothly while maintaining safety, cleanliness, and public convenience across all venues.
