Ukhrul, May 8: The United Naga Council (UNC) has strongly condemned what it described as cross-border aggression against Naga villages along the Indo-Myanmar border, alleging involvement of Myanmar-based Kuki militants and armed groups operating under the Suspension of Operations (SoO) agreement.

In a statement issued on May 8, the UNC claimed that heavily armed militants crossed the Indo-Myanmar border from Myanmar and launched attacks on several Naga villages, including Namlee, Wanglee, Ashang Khullen (KAKA) and Z Choro, on May 7.
The organisation alleged that militants opened indiscriminate fire and set houses ablaze, forcing villagers, including women, children and the elderly, to flee into nearby forests without adequate food, shelter or medical assistance.
The UNC also alleged that Sinakeithei village came under attack from the Lungthar Hill Range, resulting in injuries to several civilians.
Condemning the incidents, the council accused central security forces deployed along the Indo-Myanmar border of failing to prevent the alleged attacks despite prior security inspections in the area. It questioned how armed militants were able to allegedly cross the border and launch attacks within a short period after security personnel had visited the region.
The UNC further criticised what it described as “selective protection” and “biased enforcement” by security agencies, alleging that Naga village defence structures were dismantled while alleged Kuki militant bunkers remained untouched in certain areas.

The organisation claimed that the ongoing violence and displacement of villagers represented a serious threat to the security and dignity of indigenous Naga communities living along the border areas.
The council demanded immediate deployment of Manipur state forces, emergency relief for displaced civilians and a time-bound inquiry into the alleged border breach and attacks.
The UNC also called for accountability from the Government of India and urged authorities to take decisive action to restore security along the Indo-Myanmar border.
In its statement, the organisation warned that continued inaction could further erode public trust in security forces and deepen tensions in the region.
