Jowai, May 8: The District Medical and Health Officer (DM&HO), East Jaintia Hills district, in collaboration with the National Programme for Control of Blindness and Visual Impaired under the National Health Mission and the Association of Community Ophthalmologists of India (ACOIN) Drishti Ratha Yatra, will organise an intensive eye awareness drive and rally in Meghalaya’s East Jaintia Hills district on May 11.

According to an official release issued by the District Public Relations Officer, the programme will be held at K.B. Memorial Higher Secondary School, Wapung Skur, beginning at 10 am.
The awareness campaign will feature a tableau decorated with banners and posters highlighting the National Programme for Control of Blindness prepared by the Government of India.
Officials said the rally will begin from Pamra-Paithlu Primary Health Centre and proceed to K.B. Memorial Higher Secondary School, where an awareness programme on eye care and blindness prevention will be conducted.

As part of the initiative, vision check-ups for school children will also be organised. A symposium involving students of Classes IX to XII on the theme “Primary Eye Care” will be conducted through interactive lectures involving ophthalmologists and students.
The programme will last around 90 minutes, and medals will be awarded to the most active and outstanding student speakers during the symposium.
The initiative aims to raise awareness on eye health, promote early detection of vision problems among students and encourage community participation in blindness prevention efforts in the district.
