Dimapur, May 8: Assam Rifles on Friday handed over 18.8 acres of land occupied by the Assam Rifles Training Centre and School (ARTC&S) at 3rd Mile, Chumoukedima, to the Airports Authority of India (AAI) for the Phase-I development of Dimapur Airport in Nagaland.

The handing-over and taking-over programme was conducted jointly in the presence of officials from the state government, AAI and Assam Rifles.
Among those present were Moa Pongen, Airport Director of Dimapur Airport; Commandant KD Sharma, Commanding Officer of No. 2 Battalion, ARTC&S; Sentiwapang Aier, Secretary of the AIR Cell under the Transport Department; Chumoukedima Deputy Commissioner Polan John; and M Ababe Ezung, Officer on Special Duty in the Transport Department.
According to officials, the identified 18.8-acre site at ARTC&S was inspected before the formal transfer process was completed.

The programme marked a key milestone in the planned expansion and development of Dimapur Airport, which is expected to improve air connectivity and infrastructure in Nagaland.
During the meeting, officials also discussed the proposed transfer of additional land currently under the occupation of ARTC&S for the Phase-II expansion of the airport.
It was stated that further directives from the appropriate authorities would be required before the remaining land can be transferred for the second phase of development works.
The expansion project is expected to strengthen aviation infrastructure and support increasing passenger and operational demands at Dimapur Airport.
