In a condemnation note issued on May 8, DAYO said the incident reportedly took place on the night of May 2 at Naga United Village in Chümoukedima district, where unidentified miscreants allegedly attacked Theire.

The organisation stated that the assault was not merely an attack on an individual leader but a direct assault on the principles of peace, unity, and brotherhood upheld by Naga society over generations. It said such acts of violence and intimidation have no place in a civilized and democratic society.

DAYO expressed concern that a minor misunderstanding had allegedly escalated into a serious act of mob violence. The organisation warned against taking the law into one’s own hands, stating that increasing tendencies toward violence and intimidation pose a threat to public peace, communal harmony, and the rule of law.

The organisation urged law enforcement agencies and competent authorities to conduct a thorough, impartial, and time-bound investigation into the incident. It demanded that all perpetrators involved be identified, apprehended, and prosecuted strictly according to law without fear or favour.

DAYO also appealed to tribal bodies, youth organisations, civil society groups, and citizens to remain united against violence and criminal intimidation, stating that such incidents tarnish the dignity and image of Naga society.

Expressing solidarity with Wekupe Theire, his family, and the WCYO, the organisation prayed for his speedy recovery and reaffirmed its commitment to justice, peace, unity, and the collective brotherhood of the Naga people.
