Eastern Kuki Chiefs’ Association Accuses Kamjong MLA of Bias Over Village Violence Response

Imphal, May 8: The Eastern Kuki Chiefs’ Association (EKCA), Kamjong district, has accused Kamjong MLA Leishiyo Keishing of displaying “partial and biased conduct” in responding to incidents of violence affecting different communities in the district.

In a press release issued on May 8, the association alleged that the MLA remained silent when Lanchah village, described as a Kuki village, was allegedly burnt down and its residents suffered losses and trauma. EKCA claimed that no meaningful support, concern, or solidarity was extended by the legislator during the incident.

However, the association stated that the MLA personally visited areas affected by incidents in Namlee, Choro, and Wangli villages, which it claimed belonged to his own community, and publicly expressed sympathy and concern.

The association termed the alleged “selective concern and discriminatory behaviour” unacceptable for a public representative entrusted with the welfare of all communities in the constituency. It said the people had elected the MLA with the expectation that he would uphold justice, equality, morality, and impartial service regardless of tribe or community.

EKCA further stated that an elected representative should protect and represent every citizen equally, warning that visible partiality during times of conflict raises concerns about coexistence, trust, and harmony among different communities in the region.

Questioning how communities could continue to coexist peacefully under what it described as “dishonest and partial leadership,” the association urged the MLA to rise above communal bias and fulfil his constitutional and moral responsibilities with fairness, humanity, and equal concern for all affected people.
