Imphal/Moirang, April 7: At least three people were killed and several others injured after security forces allegedly opened fire when a mob stormed a CRPF camp at Tronglaobi in Manipur’s Bishnupur district amid escalating protests.
According to local sources, the incident occurred when angry protesters gathered near the camp and reportedly set fire to CRPF vehicles while attempting to storm the premises. Security personnel allegedly fired live rounds to disperse the crowd, leading to casualties.
According to various sources, three individuals were killed in the firing, while several others sustained injuries. The situation in the area remains tense, with security forces deployed to prevent further escalation.
The unrest comes in the wake of the recent mortar shell attack at Tronglaobi Awang Leikai, where two young siblings - a five-year-old boy and a six-month-old girl - were killed after a projectile struck their home while they were sleeping.

Following the incident, protests erupted across Bishnupur district. A voluntary shutdown was observed, with demonstrators blocking roads from Namboi to Moirang and burning tyres at several locations while demanding swift action against those responsible for the deadly attack.
Sources also indicated that groups of protesters had begun moving toward Gelmol village, a Kuki-inhabited area near Moirang. Unverified footage circulating on social media appeared to show houses in the village engulfed in flames.
Authorities are closely monitoring the situation as tensions remain high across parts of the district.
