The Kuki CSO Working Committee, Ukhrul, in a press communiqué, alleged that cadres of NSCN (EF) carried out a pre-dawn attack on May 4 around 3:00 AM in the Tongou pocket of the Kampa range. The statement claimed that the attack targeted Kuki villages, leading to an exchange of fire in which one Kuki village volunteer was critically injured. It further alleged that such incidents occurred despite ongoing ceasefire overtures and heavy deployment of security forces, raising concerns over the effectiveness of security operations.

The Kuki body also alleged that similar incidents had followed earlier combing operations in the area and called for immediate large-scale operations to prevent further incursions. It questioned whether peace initiatives could remain credible amid continued violence and urged authorities to take decisive action.

Meanwhile, the Ringui Village Protection Committee (RVPC) issued a separate statement strongly condemning what it described as repeated and unprovoked attacks by Kuki armed groups on Naga Village Guards in Ringui and adjoining areas. The committee reported that fresh gunfire occurred early on May 4 at Horei Hills and Hamsan, injuring several guards during routine monitoring duties. It also claimed that armed groups were stationed in nearby areas and continued to pose a threat to local villagers.

The RVPC termed the incidents as serious violations affecting the safety and rights of civilians and called on authorities to immediately investigate and bring those responsible to justice.

Both statements reflect sharply contrasting narratives from the two sides, highlighting the fragile security situation in parts of Manipur’s hill districts. Authorities have yet to issue an official response on the latest developments.
