Kohima, May 4, 2026: The by-election to 28 Koridang Assembly Constituency in Nagaland concluded with a decisive victory for Daochier I. Imchen of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), who secured 7,317 votes, defeating his nearest rival by a margin of 3,123 votes.

Independent candidate Toshikaba finished second with 4,194 votes, followed by Imtiwapang (Independent) with 3,633 votes and I. Abenjang of the National People’s Party (NPP) with 3,219 votes. Other candidates, including Imchatoba Imchen and T. Chalukumba Ao of the Indian National Congress (INC), trailed significantly. NOTA received 48 votes.
The results, declared after the completion of all three rounds of counting, reflect a clear mandate in favour of the BJP-backed candidate under the ruling People’s Democratic Alliance (PDA) arrangement in the state.

Reacting to the outcome, Nagaland Deputy Chief Minister Yanthungo Patton expressed gratitude to the voters of Koridang for their support, stating that the victory reflects “unity and a shared vision for the future.” He also acknowledged the efforts of party workers and the leadership of senior BJP leaders at both the state and national levels.
Patton congratulated Daochier I. Imchen on his victory, expressing confidence that the newly elected MLA would work with dedication to meet the aspirations of the people of the constituency.
The result strengthens the BJP’s position within the ruling coalition in Nagaland and underscores continued political support for the alliance in the region.
