Team Nagaland Dominates Kolkata Open Pickleball Championships with 11 Medals

Kolkata, May 4, 2026: Team Nagaland delivered an outstanding performance at the Kolkata Open Pickleball Championships, securing a total of 11 medals, including 8 gold medals and 3 silver medals, in a remarkable display of talent and determination. The achievement has drawn attention to Nagaland’s growing presence in the rapidly expanding sport of pickleball and highlighted the state's emergence as a strong contender on the national stage.

The championship witnessed participation from players representing various states across the country, with Team Nagaland standing out through a series of impressive performances across multiple categories.

One of the biggest highlights of the tournament was the performance of Vilasier Khate, who claimed the gold medal in the Advanced Men’s Singles category. His victory showcased exceptional skill, consistency, and competitive spirit, further strengthening Nagaland’s reputation in the sport. Khate also added another gold medal in the Intermediate Men’s Singles category and secured a silver medal in the 30+ category, making him one of the most successful players of the tournament.

Among the women competitors, Sonia Sarkar emerged victorious in the Intermediate Women’s Singles, earning a gold medal and contributing significantly to the team’s overall success.

Team events also proved highly rewarding for Nagaland. Kabinlo and David clinched gold in the Men’s Doubles Beginner category, while Elona and Lentina secured gold in the Women’s Doubles Beginner event. In the mixed doubles competitions, the pairs of Megotsolie and Elona, and Lentina and David, also captured gold medals in their respective categories.

Further adding to the medal tally, Kabinlo and Imsuren won gold in the Advanced Men’s Doubles category, demonstrating excellent teamwork and skill against strong competition.

Nagaland’s silver medal winners included the teams of David and Tonoto and Alemyim and Lizavi, who delivered commendable performances in their respective categories.
