Ukhrul, May 7, 2026: The Working Committee of the Tangkhul Naga Long (TNL) has strongly condemned what it described as “external aggression” along the Indo-Myanmar border, alleging coordinated attacks on Tangkhul Naga villages in Kamjong district of Manipur by armed groups linked to the Kuki National Army-Burma (KNA-B) and the People’s Defence Force (PDF).

In a press communiqué issued on Thursday, the TNL claimed that villages including Choro, Wanglee and Namlee were attacked simultaneously around 3:30 am. The statement alleged that the settlements were bombed using drones, houses were razed, villagers were looted, and civilians were fired upon by armed assailants.
According to the communiqué, more than 15 houses were burnt down in Choro village under Kamjong subdivision, while several villagers were allegedly rounded up and tortured. The organisation also claimed that a woman sustained a bullet injury in Namlee village and that multiple houses in Wanglee village under Kasom Khullen subdivision were destroyed in the violence.
The Tangkhul Naga body said the attacks created panic and insecurity among residents, forcing many women, children and villagers to flee into nearby jungles for safety. It further alleged that several people remain missing.
The TNL expressed “vehement condemnation” of the alleged attacks and said the border villages had, in recent years, provided shelter and assistance to civilians fleeing violence in Myanmar following resistance movements against the military junta.

The organisation also raised questions over the role of security forces stationed in the area, alleging that Assam Rifles personnel failed to protect civilians during the incident. The communiqué claimed that the attacks occurred shortly after a troop movement by Assam Rifles in the border villages, and alleged possible intelligence-sharing with Myanmar-based armed actors, though no evidence was provided in the statement.
Calling the incident a serious threat to India’s sovereignty and border security, the TNL urged the Central government to take immediate action to safeguard border residents and address the situation with urgency.
No official statement from the Assam Rifles, security agencies, or the Manipur government had been issued at the time of filing this report.
