Aizawl, May 7, 2026: The newly elected members of the Aizawl Municipal Corporation (AMC) were formally sworn in on Thursday during a function held at the BoC Meeting Hall of the AMC Office at Thuampui. The oath-taking ceremony was administered by Aizawl Deputy Commissioner Er. Lalhriatpuia.

Nineteen newly elected corporators from different wards took the oath of office and secrecy during the ceremony. Following the swearing-in, Ward VI Corporator H. Lalremtluanga was unanimously appointed as the new Mayor of Aizawl Municipal Corporation, while Ward XVI Corporator R. Lalawmpuii was appointed Deputy Mayor.
The Deputy Commissioner also administered the oath to the newly appointed Mayor and Deputy Mayor. In addition, four Executive Corporators - Christina Roluahpuii Sailo (Ward VIII), Vanlalhruaia (Ward XIII), Vanlalfaka (Ward III), and K. Lalrodinga (Ward XVIII) - were also sworn in.
The ceremony was attended by Chief Minister Pu Lalduhoma, Home Minister K. Sapdanga, Assembly Speaker, Rajya Sabha MP, ministers, MLAs, and other dignitaries.

Speaking on the occasion through a congratulatory message, Chief Minister Lalduhoma extended his best wishes to the newly elected Mayor, Deputy Mayor, and all corporators. He assured that the Mizoram Government would extend full support to AMC in its efforts to build a better Aizawl.
The newly appointed Mayor, H. Lalremtluanga, 43, holds a BA in English and has previously served in various capacities, including Outreach Worker at FXB International, teacher at New Horizon School, and Assistant at SIPMIU, Aizawl. He had also earlier served as AMC Corporator of Ward VI.
Deputy Mayor R. Lalawmpuii, also known as Maawmi, holds an MA in Political Science with specialization in International Politics and Civics from the University of Mumbai. She currently serves as President of Zonu General Headquarters and has previously worked as a teacher and resource person in various institutions.
