Mizoram University Introduces Korean Language Course, Hosts Korean Culture Programme

Aizawl, May 7: Mizoram University hosted a programme titled “Introduction of Korean Language Class and Korean Culture” on May 7 at the Dean’s Seminar Hall, School of Humanities and Language, aimed at introducing Korean language studies and promoting cultural exchange with South Korea.

The event marked a significant step towards strengthening academic and cultural ties between Mizoram University and Korean institutions.

The programme was compered by Prof. Ruth Lalremruati of the Department of Mizo and began with a welcome address delivered by Prof. Laltluangliana Khiangte, Dean of the School of Humanities and Language.

Addressing the gathering, Mizoram University Vice Chancellor Dibakar Chandra Deka highlighted the university’s commitment to internationalisation and expressed optimism that the introduction of Korean language and culture would create new academic and professional opportunities for students.

Prof. Lee Sang from Hanyang University, South Korea, presented an overview of the MGH Korea initiative, explaining its vision, objectives and opportunities for academic collaboration.

The programme also featured an introduction to Korean culture, giving participants insights into Korean traditions and heritage.

One of the major highlights of the event was the formal introduction of a Korean language course at Mizoram University through the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU). The agreement is expected to facilitate structured Korean language classes for students at the university.

The audience was also treated to a traditional Korean fan dance performance, adding a cultural dimension to the programme.

An interactive question-and-answer session was held at the end of the event, allowing students and faculty members to engage with the speakers and learn more about Korean language and educational opportunities.

The vote of thanks was delivered by Prof. HK Laldinpuii Fente, Director of the Office for International Affairs, MZU, who thanked the Vice Chancellor, dignitaries, faculty members, performers and students for contributing to the success of the programme.

The event witnessed enthusiastic participation from students and faculty members from various departments of the university.
