Itanagar, May 7, 2026: Arunachal Pradesh Chief Minister Pema Khandu on Thursday announced that the state government will erect a memorial statue in honour of Late Gyamar Padang, recognising his significant contribution towards promoting transparency, accountability, and good governance in the state.

The announcement was made following a meeting with members of Gyamar Padang’s family, during which the Chief Minister conveyed his respect and condolences while acknowledging Padang’s lasting impact on public administration and governance in Arunachal Pradesh.
Sharing the decision on social media, Khandu said the memorial would serve as a tribute to a citizen whose efforts helped expose shortcomings in the recruitment system and encouraged reforms aimed at improving transparency and efficiency in public institutions.
Late Gyamar Padang was posthumously awarded the State Gold Medal, one of Arunachal Pradesh’s highest state honours, in recognition of his role in bringing attention to issues affecting governance and recruitment processes. His efforts are widely credited with helping initiate discussions on strengthening accountability mechanisms and ensuring greater fairness in public administration.
The Chief Minister stated that Padang’s commitment to truth and public welfare reflected the values necessary for a healthy democratic society. He noted that the proposed statue would not only honour his memory but also inspire future generations to uphold integrity, responsibility, and dedication to public service.
“Late Gyamar Padang’s contributions to society and governance will always be remembered. His courage in highlighting systemic issues and his commitment to public interest have left a lasting legacy for Arunachal Pradesh,” Khandu said.
