Aizawl, May 24: Lalduhoma, Chief Minister of Mizoram, on Sunday met Rajiv Ranjan Singh, Union Minister for Fisheries, Animal Husbandry & Dairying, at the Chief Minister’s official residence in Aizawl during the latter’s visit to the state.
Soon after arriving in Aizawl, the Union Minister called on the Chief Minister accompanied by George Kurian, Union Minister of State for Fisheries, Animal Husbandry & Dairying and Minority Affairs, along with senior Central Government officials.
Welcoming the Union Minister to Mizoram, Chief Minister Lalduhoma expressed hope that the visit would greatly benefit the state and conveyed his best wishes for a pleasant stay. During the meeting, the Chief Minister highlighted several priorities and requirements of Mizoram in the fisheries and Animal Husbandry & Veterinary sectors.
Rajiv Ranjan Singh informed the Chief Minister that the Centre is working towards sanctioning important projects proposed by Mizoram, including the establishment of a Wholesale Fish Market, an Integrated Aqua Park and the expansion of Paddy-cum-Fish Culture clusters to additional districts.
The Union Minister also stated that the upcoming Pradhan Mantri Matsya Sampada Yojana (PMMSY) 2.0 would include provisions for the creation of new fish ponds, renovation and rejuvenation of existing ponds and enhanced assistance for fish farmers. He encouraged the Mizoram Government to submit detailed and well-prepared proposals so that the state could benefit substantially under the scheme.
He further expressed the Centre’s desire to see Mizoram become self-sufficient in fish production and eventually emerge as a fish-exporting state. The Union Minister assured support for development-oriented projects submitted by the state government.
On dairy development, Chief Minister Lalduhoma informed the Union Minister that under a new central scheme being formulated for the establishment of Milk Processing Plants, the funding pattern is proposed to be revised to a more favourable 90:10 Central-State sharing ratio.

Rajiv Ranjan Singh also assured that the Centre would consider sanctioning additional Mobile Veterinary Units required by Mizoram. He advised the state government to effectively implement the already sanctioned units while further approvals are being processed.
The Union Minister further stated that the issue of transport subsidy for animal feed would be pursued. Emphasising sustainable development, he said promoting local cultivation of animal feed within Mizoram would be the most beneficial long-term solution and assured Central support for such initiatives.
The Union Minister was received at Lengpui Airport by C. Lalsawivunga, Mizoram Minister for Animal Husbandry & Veterinary, and Lalthansanga, Mizoram Minister for Fisheries, along with senior officials, who also attended the meeting.
