Gangtok, May 24: Thousands of devotees, monks and dignitaries on Sunday participated in the sacred final journey and enshrinement ceremony of the Kudung of the Fourth Dodrupchen Rinpoche, His Holiness Kyabgon Dodrupchen Jigme Thupten Trinley Palzangpo, in Gangtok.
The sacred procession began from the Tsamkhang at the Lukshyama Royal Crematorium campus and proceeded towards Deorali Chorten Gonpa through a grand “Serbang” procession conducted in accordance with traditional Buddhist rituals and monastic customs.
Devotees lined the route to offer prayers, khadas and floral tributes as the sacred cortège moved through different parts of Gangtok. Monasteries, Buddhist organisations, educational institutions and community groups also accorded ceremonial receptions along the route.
At around 3 pm, the procession reached Deorali Chorten Gonpa, where it was ceremonially received by Prem Singh Tamang, Chief Minister of Sikkim, along with Pintso Chopel, Minister of Ecclesiastical Affairs, Gyalsey Prince Palden Namgyal and several other dignitaries.\

Following the guidance and counsel of senior Buddhist Lamas, a Golden Reliquary Stupa had been specially prepared at Deorali Chorten Gonpa as the final resting place of the sacred Kudung.
On the occasion, Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang offered “Kusum Mendel” prayers and inaugurated the “Thongdrol Khangzang” or Liberation Through Seeing Hall, which houses sacred relics and personal belongings used by His Holiness during his lifetime.
The sacred enshrinement ceremony was marked by solemn prayers, chants and traditional Buddhist rituals attended by thousands of followers from Sikkim and neighbouring regions.
Religious leaders and devotees described the event as a historic and spiritually significant occasion for the Buddhist community. The Golden Reliquary Stupa is expected to remain an important spiritual and pilgrimage site symbolising the teachings, compassion and legacy of the Fourth Dodrupchen Rinpoche for generations to come.
