According to an official press release issued from Raj Bhavan, the sacred proceedings commenced in the morning from Tsamkhang at Lukshyama following elaborate traditional Buddhist rituals and ceremonial prayers. The Governor paid homage to the revered Nyingma spiritual master and offered prayers for universal peace, compassion, harmony and the well-being of humanity.
A grand traditional Buddhist procession accompanied the Sacred Kudung - the holy mortal remains of the late spiritual leader - from Tsamkhang to Deorali Chorten Monastery with full religious honours. Monks, devotees and followers participated in the solemn procession amid continuous chanting of sacred prayers and rituals associated with Tibetan Buddhist traditions.
The Sacred Kudung will subsequently be ceremonially enshrined in the monastery’s golden relic stupa in accordance with established religious customs and spiritual practices of the Nyingma sect. The Government of Sikkim had earlier described the event as a “profoundly sacred and historic occasion” for the state and the global Buddhist community.
