Union Minister Rajiv Ranjan Singh Arrives in Mizoram for Northeast Regional Review Meeting

Aizawl, May 24: Rajiv Ranjan Singh, Union Minister for Fisheries, Animal Husbandry & Dairying and Panchayati Raj, arrived in Aizawl on Saturday on an official visit ahead of the “Regional Review Meeting: Northeastern Region 2026,” scheduled to be held on May 25. He was accompanied by George Kurian, Union Minister of State for Fisheries, Animal Husbandry & Dairying and Minority Affairs, and Prof. S.P. Singh Baghel, Union Minister of State for Fisheries, Animal Husbandry & Dairying and Panchayati Raj.

The regional review meeting, organised by the Ministry of Fisheries, Animal Husbandry & Dairying (MoFAH&D), Government of India, will review the progress of Northeastern states in fisheries, animal husbandry and dairy development, along with the implementation of various Central Government schemes. Representatives from Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Manipur, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Nagaland, Sikkim and Tripura are expected to participate in the event.

During the programme, Union Minister Rajiv Ranjan Singh will inaugurate and lay the foundation for projects worth approximately Rs. 32.15 crore under the Pradhan Mantri Matsya Sampada Yojana (PMMSY) and the Fisheries and Aquaculture Infrastructure Development Fund (FIDF). The projects are aimed at strengthening fisheries infrastructure and promoting sustainable aquaculture development in the Northeastern region.

The Union Minister will also launch several initiatives and awareness materials during the event, including a Baseline Village Level Survey for expanding Multipurpose Dairy Cooperative Societies (MDCS), an African Swine Fever (ASF) awareness film, and a booklet titled “Good Husbandry Practices in Pig Farming.” In addition, MULCO Cow Ghee by the Mizoram Milk Producers Co-operative Union Ltd will be launched, while Mizo Café and an FPO Office-cum-Sale Outlet will also be inaugurated.

Rajiv Ranjan Singh landed at Lengpui Airport on Saturday evening, where he was received by C. Lalsawivunga, Mizoram Minister for Animal Husbandry & Veterinary, and Lalthansanga, Mizoram Minister for Fisheries, along with other dignitaries. Following his arrival, the delegation proceeded to the Chief Minister’s Office.

According to officials, the meeting will focus on reviewing ongoing schemes and discussing future strategies for sustainable growth, farmers’ welfare, employment generation and livelihood enhancement across the fisheries, livestock and dairy sectors in the Northeastern region. Senior officials from the Central and State Governments, along with fisheries and livestock sector representatives, will also participate in discussions aimed at improving production, strengthening market linkages and promoting exports.

The programme will further include experience-sharing sessions by beneficiaries of the National Livestock Mission Entrepreneurship Development Programme (NLM-EDP), fisheries cooperatives and MULCO farmer members, highlighting successful grassroots initiatives and rural livelihood development in the Northeast.
