Mizoram CM Lalduhoma Highlights Growing Mizo Identity in Manipur and Chin Hills

Serchhip, May 2, 2026: Mizoram Chief Minister Lalduhoma on Friday highlighted the growing awareness of Mizo identity in neighbouring Manipur and the Chin Hills, stressing the importance of unity among the Mizo people.

Addressing the Serchhip Sub-Headquarters Young Mizo Association (YMA) Inkhawmpui at Thenzawl Auditorium, the Chief Minister said a renewed sense of Mizo identity is emerging in surrounding regions, reflecting stronger cultural and social connections among Mizo communities.

He also noted that with the recent surrender of arms by HPC-D (LF) cadres, there are now no ethnic insurgent groups operating in Mizoram, and credited the Young Mizo Association (YMA) for its role in maintaining peace, unity, and stability in the state.

During his address, Lalduhoma encouraged young people to lead disciplined lives, stay away from drugs, and prepare for national-level competitive examinations, urging them to work hard and compete with officers from across the country.

The Chief Minister also highlighted several development initiatives being undertaken by the government in the region. These include the Thenzawl Peace City Project, the SASCI Green Field City plan, and ongoing efforts to extend rail connectivity to Thenzawl.

He further mentioned that a new PWD Sub-Division has been opened in Biate, with road improvement works planned between Artahkawn and Biate, along with other infrastructure upgrades.

Other projects include the construction of a Multipurpose Hall in Sialhawk, the trial run of the N. Vanlaiphai Water Supply Augmentation Scheme, and proposals to develop the Mat River into a multipurpose dam.

Lalduhoma added that efforts are underway to upgrade the Aizawl–Thenzawl road into a National Highway, noting that funds have already been earmarked for these projects.

He called on the youth to prepare themselves to take advantage of the opportunities created by these developments and contribute to the state’s continued progress.
