Tripura CM Manik Saha Reviews Urban Development and Civic Projects

Agartala, May 2, 2026: Tripura Chief Minister Prof. (Dr.) Manik Saha on Friday chaired a comprehensive review meeting on the functioning of the Urban Development Department and Urban Local Bodies, emphasizing the need for accelerated project implementation, improved civic services and sustainable urban growth across the state.

The meeting was held at the Conference Hall of the Tripura Institute of Technology (TIFT) and was attended by senior officials of the Urban Development Department, representatives of municipal bodies and other stakeholders involved in urban infrastructure and civic administration.

During the review, the Chief Minister assessed the progress of ongoing development projects, examined the status of various urban infrastructure initiatives and discussed strategic priorities aimed at improving the quality of life in towns and cities across Tripura. Officials presented updates on key schemes and projects being implemented under different urban development programmes.

Dr. Saha stressed the importance of completing development works within stipulated timelines and directed officials to ensure that projects are executed efficiently without unnecessary delays. He noted that timely implementation is essential for delivering the intended benefits to citizens and achieving the state’s broader development goals.

“The objective of every development project is to improve the lives of the people. Therefore, all departments and local bodies must work with dedication and accountability to ensure that projects are completed on time and public services are delivered efficiently,” the Chief Minister said.

A major focus of the meeting was the strengthening of civic infrastructure and public services. Discussions covered areas such as urban road connectivity, drainage systems, sanitation, waste management, drinking water supply, street lighting and other essential civic amenities. Officials also reviewed measures to improve administrative efficiency and enhance service delivery through better coordination among departments and urban local bodies.

The Chief Minister further highlighted the importance of sustainable development in the face of rapid urbanization. Dr. Saha reiterated that coordinated efforts between the Urban Development Department, municipal bodies and other government agencies are essential for achieving meaningful progress. He urged all stakeholders to work in close collaboration to address urban challenges and ensure effective implementation of development programmes.

The Chief Minister noted that urban centers play a crucial role in Tripura’s economic and social development. As such, improving infrastructure and civic services is vital for supporting economic growth, attracting investment and enhancing the overall quality of life of residents.
