Churachandpur, May 5, 2026: A joint team of Behiang Police Station and the 37 Assam Rifles arrested four Myanmar nationals in Manipur’s Churachandpur district and seized 66 soap cases of suspected heroin, officials said.

The arrested individuals have been identified as Thangsawmung (56), Kamkhenmung (56), Jhonmung (31), and Haukhul (55), all residents of Chikha village in Myanmar. Preliminary reports indicate that while two of them claimed to be Indian citizens, all four are believed to be Myanmar nationals.
The operation has raised fresh concerns over cross-border infiltration and the alleged involvement of illegal immigrants in drug trafficking activities in the region.

Reacting to the development, former Manipur Chief Minister N. Biren Singh appreciated the coordinated efforts of the security forces and stated that the incident highlights ongoing challenges of infiltration and drug smuggling in the state.
Authorities are continuing further investigation into the case to ascertain the source and intended destination of the seized contraband.
