Imphal, May 5, 2026: Manipur Chief Minister Yumnam Khemchand on Tuesday held a meeting with a delegation of corporators led by Caretaker Mayor L. Lokeshwar Singh at the Manipur Secretariat to discuss key issues concerning urban administration and explore measures to strengthen governance at the grassroots level.

The meeting focused on the growing challenges associated with the expansion of municipal areas in Imphal and the increasing demand for improved civic infrastructure and public services. Senior officials and representatives of the municipal administration participated in the discussions, which aimed to identify practical solutions for enhancing the efficiency of urban local bodies.
During the meeting, the Chief Minister reviewed the current status of civic services and highlighted the need to address emerging urban challenges arising from rapid population growth and the expansion of municipal limits. Particular attention was given to improving sanitation, urban waste management, drainage systems, and other essential public services that directly affect the quality of life of residents.
Khemchand noted that urbanisation has brought new opportunities as well as significant administrative responsibilities. He stressed that strengthening municipal institutions is essential for ensuring efficient service delivery and sustainable urban development. He called for better planning, effective implementation of civic projects, and stronger coordination among government departments and local bodies.
The Chief Minister assured the delegation that the state government remains committed to adopting structured, responsive, and forward-looking measures to address urban challenges. He said the government would continue to support municipal authorities in improving infrastructure, expanding public services, and implementing initiatives aimed at creating cleaner, healthier, and more liveable urban spaces.

The interaction also underscored the importance of close cooperation between the state government and elected representatives of urban local bodies. He expressed confidence that collaborative efforts between the government and municipal bodies would enhance public service delivery, improve urban infrastructure, and contribute to the long-term development of Imphal and other urban centres across the state.
