Family members collected the mortal remains from the mortuary of the Regional Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS) in Imphal after they had been kept there for nearly 25 days. The bodies were then taken in a funeral procession to their native locality for the last rites.
Hundreds of residents, civil society organisations and supporters lined the route to pay floral tributes as the funeral procession moved through areas including Phougakchao Ikhai in Bishnupur district. The final rites were later performed at Lamthabung Ground in Torbung, where mourners gathered in large numbers to express their grief and solidarity with the bereaved family.
The children were killed when a bomb struck a residence in Tronglaobi during the early hours of April 7. Their mother was also injured in the attack. The incident triggered widespread outrage across the Imphal Valley and led to protests demanding justice for the victims.
