In a statement issued on Saturday, the committee said the firing was carried out at around 12:30 PM from New Heaven along National Highway 202, targeting the Kuki village of Chepu Yaolen. The group claimed the attack created widespread panic among villagers, particularly affecting women and children.

The committee stated that the incident followed a failed attempt on April 28 by alleged aggressors to infiltrate the village through forest and agricultural zones via the Ringui–Tongou–Sirarikhong corridor.

The CSOs also raised serious allegations regarding the possible involvement of personnel from Litan Police Station, claiming that attackers were aided with weapons and ammunition. The statement alleged that photographic evidence showed police personnel present at New Heaven prior to the reported firing, raising concerns about possible collusion and negligence.

According to the committee, earlier warnings about the vulnerability of Chepu Yaolen were ignored, which they said reflects a failure to ensure adequate security for the village.

The release further claimed that damage to the motorable road near the suspension bridge by TM Kasom villagers has effectively isolated Chepu Yaolen at a time of heightened tension.

The committee has demanded the immediate removal of Tangkhul personnel from Litan Police Station and the deployment of at least one company of Assam Rifles to secure Chepu Yaolen and nearby vulnerable areas.

They also urged the authorities to take urgent measures to restore security and ensure the protection of civilians in the region.
