Former Manipur Minister AS Arthur Passes Away at 99

Imphal, May 2, 2026: Veteran politician from Ukhrul district, Shri AS Arthur, former Minister of General Administration Department (GAD) and Forest, passed away at the age of 99 in New Delhi, Chief Minister Yumnam Khemchand said on Friday. His demise has been described as a major loss to Manipur’s political landscape.

In a condolence message, Chief Minister Yumnam Khemchand expressed deep sorrow over the passing of the senior leader and noted that Arthur had served the people with dedication during his political career.

Shri Arthur was elected for two terms and remained an active and respected political figure during the 1980s and 1990s. He was widely known for his commitment to public service and his efforts towards the welfare, progress, and development of the state.

The Chief Minister said Arthur’s contributions to Manipur’s political and administrative development would be remembered with deep respect and gratitude.
