Tura, May 22, 2026: Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma on Thursday laid the foundation stone for the new building of PASF-Abong Noga College in Tura and inaugurated the institution’s newly constructed conference hall, reaffirming the state government’s focus on strengthening higher education infrastructure and improving academic opportunities for youth.
The project, backed under a Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiative, involves an investment of ₹8 crore, of which ₹5 crore has already been released. The initiative is being implemented through a partnership between Dorf Ketal Chemicals India Ltd., the P. A. Sangma Foundation and Ira Gurukul Educational Trust.
Addressing the gathering at New Tura, the Chief Minister said education remains central to Meghalaya’s long-term development goals and stressed the need to improve not only access to education but also the quality of learning institutions across the state.
“Education is very important to the development goals of our state because, in the final sense, everything we are trying to do must improve the lives of people,” Sangma said during the programme attended by senior ministers, local representatives, faculty members and students.
He noted that Meghalaya has one of the youngest populations in the country and said the government continues to prioritise investments in education, teacher welfare and institutional infrastructure as part of its broader human resource development agenda.
Sangma also highlighted the legacy of late Purno Agitok Sangma, whose vision inspired the establishment of the institution. He said the college symbolises the transformative power of education and expressed hope that PASF-Abong Noga College would emerge as one of the premier institutions in Meghalaya and the Northeast region.

Established in 2022 by the P. A. Sangma Foundation and later affiliated with North-Eastern Hill University (NEHU), PASF-Abong Noga College carries forward the legacy of late P. A. Sangma as well as Abong Noga, a respected figure in Garo history.
Officials stated that the new infrastructure and conference hall are expected to significantly enhance the institution’s academic environment and improve access to quality higher education for students in the Garo Hills region.
