Tura, May 21, 2026: Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma on Thursday chaired a joint meeting involving the Police, Urban Affairs and Veterinary Departments to initiate plans for the development of a modern police complex at Rongkhon in Tura.
The proposed project is aimed at improving urban infrastructure and reducing congestion in the busy Tura Bazar area by consolidating police facilities at Rongkhon. According to officials, the relocation of existing police infrastructure from the town centre is expected to create additional public space for green zones, beautification projects and pedestrian-friendly areas.
The meeting was held at Tree House in Tura, where the Chief Minister emphasised the importance of integrated urban planning that balances infrastructure development with environmental sustainability and public convenience.
Sangma stated that the initiative aligns with the state government’s broader vision of transforming Tura into a cleaner, greener and better-planned urban centre. He stressed the need for coordinated efforts among departments to ensure efficient implementation of the project while improving civic amenities for residents.
During the discussion, officials from the concerned departments reviewed land requirements, planning modalities, inter-departmental coordination mechanisms and phased implementation strategies for the proposed police complex.

Officials noted that decongesting the Tura Bazar area would help improve traffic movement, create safer public spaces and support future urban expansion in the town.
The proposed modern police complex at Rongkhon is part of Meghalaya’s ongoing efforts to modernise urban infrastructure and promote sustainable town planning across the state.
