The development comes following a high-level meeting convened by NITI Aayog under the chairmanship of Dr. Joram Aniya to deliberate on the proposed institutional framework and future roadmap for the ITA.

The meeting was attended by NITI Aayog CEO Nidhi Chhibber, Sonam Chombay, K. Narayanan, Programme Directors for the North-Eastern States and senior officials of NITI Aayog. During the deliberations, discussions focused on Arunachal Pradesh’s emerging economic opportunities, developmental priorities and governance challenges.

A detailed presentation by Sonam Chombay highlighted the state’s vast hydropower potential, expanding connectivity infrastructure, tourism prospects, agricultural growth and youth empowerment opportunities. The presentation also underlined the need for a specialised institution capable of delivering long-term developmental strategies suited to Arunachal Pradesh’s unique geographical and socio-cultural realities.

According to officials, the proposed Institute for Transforming Arunachal Pradesh would function as a dedicated policy and research institution aimed at promoting innovation, sustainable development strategies, data-driven governance and effective policy implementation across sectors.

Chief Minister Pema Khandu welcomed the initiative and said the state had long advocated the need for a dedicated policy think tank that could provide strategic direction and tailored developmental planning for Arunachal Pradesh.
