Aizawl, May 5, 2026: All India Radio (AIR) Aizawl celebrated the 90th anniversary of AIR with a musical concert held at Central YMA Hall, Tuikhuahtlang, bringing together artists, officials, and music enthusiasts.

The event was graced by B. Lalchhanzova, Minister of Information, Public Relations, Printing & Stationery (IPRP&S), as the Chief Guest. In his address, he congratulated AIR for its legacy and highlighted its vital role in preserving Mizo culture, language, and identity. He emphasized the importance of safeguarding indigenous traditions in an era of rapid cultural change.
Director of AIR Aizawl, D.R. Lalropuia, in his welcome speech, traced the evolution of AIR as a key medium of communication even before India’s independence. He noted that AIR continues to serve as a bridge between the government and the public while contributing to national development and the vision of Viksit Bharat 2047.
During the programme, prominent artists were honoured for their contributions, including Top Grade Artist Vanhlupuii and ‘A’ Grade artists Laltlanthangi Pachuau, Siampuii Sailo, C. Vansanga, and Rualthankhuma Chhakchhuak. The ceremony featured vibrant musical performances showcasing local talent.

AIR, established on June 8, 1936, currently operates 230 stations across India, including Aizawl. As part of the anniversary celebrations, AIR Aizawl will organise a Walkathon on May 8, while the main commemorative event is scheduled for June 8 at Vanapa Hall, to be attended by Mizoram Chief Minister Lalduhoma.
The event concluded with a vote of thanks by Biakchungnunga, Additional Director (Programme), AIR Aizawl, marking a successful celebration of AIR’s enduring legacy in the region.
