During the discussions, Lalnghinglova Hmar highlighted the steady growth in tourist arrivals to Mizoram in recent years and stressed the need for continued investment in tourism infrastructure, capacity building, and awareness programmes. He noted that as visitor numbers increase, it is important to ensure that tourism development remains sustainable and benefits local communities while preserving the state’s unique cultural identity and natural environment.

The Minister informed the Tourism Secretary about various initiatives undertaken by the Mizoram Government to promote tourism and create new attractions across the state. He emphasized that tourism development in Mizoram is being pursued in a manner that respects and safeguards the social and cultural values of Mizo society. He also proposed stronger cooperation with the Central Government to support ongoing projects and future tourism initiatives.

A key aspect of Mizoram’s tourism strategy, according to Lalnghinglova Hmar, is to encourage visitors to spend more time in the state rather than treating it as a short-stop destination. He said the government is working on plans to develop Aizawl and its surrounding areas as major tourism hubs, enabling tourists to experience the state’s culture, cuisine, heritage, and natural beauty before exploring other districts.

The Minister stated that improving tourism facilities around the capital city would help create a stronger foundation for the industry and generate greater economic benefits for local businesses, entrepreneurs, and communities.

Tourism Secretary Bhuvnesh Kumar, who recently visited Aizawl and Thenzawl, acknowledged the significant tourism potential of Mizoram. He noted that the state possesses several strengths, including scenic landscapes, a pleasant climate, rich cultural traditions, and a clean environment that can appeal to both domestic and international tourists.

Kumar stressed the importance of developing high-quality attractions and tourism experiences within easy reach of the capital to attract more visitors and encourage longer stays. He also referred to the Central Government’s “One State: One Global Destination” initiative and suggested that Aizawl could be developed as a major focal point under the programme, helping to enhance the state’s visibility on the national and international tourism map.

During the meeting, Lalnghinglova Hmar also shared the state government’s vision of promoting Mizoram as the “Winter Capital of India.” He explained that the state’s pleasant winter climate and unique tourism offerings provide an opportunity to attract visitors seeking seasonal travel experiences. The Minister sought continued support from the Ministry of Tourism in realizing this vision through infrastructure development, marketing support, and promotional campaigns.

Responding positively, Bhuvnesh Kumar assured the Minister of the Centre’s full cooperation in advancing Mizoram’s tourism goals. He appreciated the state’s strategic and innovative approach to tourism promotion, particularly its emphasis on seasonal and thematic tourism initiatives.

The meeting was also attended by R. Lalrodingi, Director of Tourism, Mizoram, who accompanied the Minister as part of the official delegation.

Officials described the meeting as productive and forward-looking, with both sides agreeing on the need for closer coordination to unlock Mizoram’s tourism potential. The discussions are expected to contribute to future projects aimed at improving infrastructure, enhancing visitor experiences, and positioning Mizoram as one of India’s emerging tourism destinations.
