| Bullet impact marks seen on the window and interior wall of the Mongkot Chepu village chief’s residence after a gunfire incident during a village authority meeting in Ukhrul district. |
According to an official statement, the incident took place at around 5:30 PM while a village authority meeting was in progress at the chief’s residence. An unprovoked single round of gunfire, believed to have originated from the vicinity of Litan Police Station, struck the window of the durbar hall, pierced through it, and hit the opposite wall, posing a serious threat to those present.
The Village Authority stated that the incident was not an isolated case, alleging that similar instances of bullets being fired from the same vicinity into residential areas of Mongkot Chepu have occurred repeatedly. These incidents, it said, have raised serious concerns about public safety and the functioning of the police in the area.

In response to the situation, the village authority demanded the removal of Litan Police Station in its current form and called for the deployment of central security forces in the area.
The statement further called for a thorough and transparent investigation into the incident and urged authorities to take swift action to prevent any recurrence. The Village Authority also warned that the government would be held responsible for any retaliation faced by the villagers.
