Tura, February 11: In a landmark development for the Garo Hills region, Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma on Tuesday handed over land for the upcoming Holiday Inn Resort, marking the establishment of the first five-star hotel in Tura and the Garo Hills.
The project, a ₹130 crore investment by the InterContinental Hotels Group, is expected to significantly boost tourism and economic growth in the region. The Holiday Inn Resort will become a flagship hospitality destination, placing Tura on the national tourism map.
Describing the occasion as “historic and deeply personal,” the Chief Minister said that few could have imagined Tura hosting a five-star hotel. He emphasized that the project represents more than luxury accommodation, calling it an “economic engine” that will generate employment, attract visitors, encourage investment, and create new opportunities for local residents.
