Himanta Biswa Sarma Unveils ₹125 Crore Projects, Launches Assam’s First Athletics Academy in Nalbari

Nalbari, February 11: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Wednesday inaugurated and dedicated development projects worth more than ₹125 crore in Nalbari district, marking a significant step toward strengthening administrative infrastructure, public facilities, and sports development. The projects include Assam’s first-ever Athletics Academy, a landmark initiative aimed at nurturing sporting talent and creating world-class training opportunities for young athletes.

One of the key projects inaugurated was the ₹49.45 crore Integrated District Commissioner’s Office, an eight-storey modern administrative complex designed to function as a centralized governance hub. The facility brings together multiple government departments under one roof, enabling faster public service delivery, improved coordination among departments, and easier access for citizens seeking government services.

The Chief Minister also inaugurated the ₹17.95 crore Nalbari Convention Centre, a modern venue equipped to host official conferences, cultural programmes, exhibitions, and community events. The new convention centre is expected to enhance the district’s civic infrastructure while providing a dedicated space for major public and administrative gatherings.

The highlight of the inauguration programme was the opening of the ₹58.22 crore District Sports Stadium Complex, which houses Assam’s first Athletics Academy. The academy has been established to identify, train, and develop talented athletes from the grassroots level and prepare them for national and international competitions.

Equipped with international-standard training facilities, modern sports infrastructure, and coaching support, the academy is expected to become a centre of excellence for athletics in the state. Speaking on the occasion, Sarma said the initiative reflects the government’s commitment to building a strong sporting ecosystem and encouraging young athletes to pursue excellence.

According to the Chief Minister’s Office, the projects are part of the state government’s broader vision to modernize district headquarters while promoting youth empowerment through sports, skill development, and improved public infrastructure. The Athletics Academy is expected to commence operations soon, opening new opportunities for aspiring sportspersons across Assam.

The inauguration of these projects positions Nalbari as a model district for administrative modernization and sports infrastructure, reinforcing the government’s focus on balanced regional development and creating world-class facilities for future generations.
