New Tata Ultra electric buses lined up at the ASTC yard in Guwahati ahead of their official flag-off under the PM E-Bus Sewa Scheme.

The air-conditioned zero-emission buses, branded as Tata Ultra EV, are designed for intra-city commuting and come equipped with a full-electric drivetrain, advanced battery systems, electronic stability control, electronic brake distribution, air suspension, Intelligent Transport System (ITS), and panic buttons. The vehicles also enable real-time monitoring through ASTC’s Command & Control Centre at Rupnagar.

With this addition, ASTC’s fleet now comprises 271 electric buses and 100 CNG buses. The new buses have been procured under the Gross Cost Contract (GCC) model in collaboration with JBM, ensuring no upfront investment by the state government, as the entire capital expenditure is borne by the GCC investor.

Guwahati has become the first city in India to acquire 100 electric buses under the Prime Minister E-Bus Sewa Scheme launched by the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs. The buses are scheduled to be virtually flagged off by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on February 14, 2026.

Under the scheme, Nagpur received 50 buses, Bhavnagar 30, and Chandigarh 25, while Guwahati topped the list with 100 allocations.
