Guwahati, February 11: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Wednesday distributed appointment letters to 1,879 newly selected candidates across various government departments, marking another milestone in the state’s ongoing recruitment drive. With the latest round of appointments, the total number of government jobs provided under the present state government has reached 1,58,373.

The appointment ceremony, held in Guwahati, witnessed the Chief Minister personally handing over appointment letters to selected candidates. Addressing the gathering, Sarma congratulated the recruits and encouraged them to serve the people of Assam with dedication and integrity. He remarked that the newly appointed employees would now have the opportunity to contribute to the development of “Aai Asomi” (Mother Assam) through their respective roles in public service.
Highlighting the government's commitment to transparent and merit-based recruitment, the Chief Minister said employment generation remains one of the administration’s highest priorities. He reiterated that every appointment has been made through a fair and transparent selection process, ensuring equal opportunities for deserving candidates.
Of the 1,879 appointments, a total of 1,694 candidates were selected for various posts under the Public Works Department (PWD), Transport Department, and Water Resources Department. In addition, 185 contractual candidates received appointment letters under the Assam State Rural Livelihoods Mission (ASRLM), strengthening the workforce involved in rural development and livelihood initiatives across the state.

Sarma noted that the government’s recruitment drive reflects its commitment to creating meaningful employment opportunities for the youth while improving the efficiency of public service delivery. He said the appointments also fulfil the government’s promise of providing more than 1.5 lakh government jobs during its tenure.
With the latest recruitment, the cumulative number of appointments made by the present government has risen to 1,58,373. The Chief Minister described the achievement as a significant step towards empowering Assam’s youth, strengthening government institutions, and ensuring transparent governance. He reaffirmed that the state government would continue to generate employment opportunities while maintaining fairness, accountability, and merit in the recruitment process.
