The Union Minister, accompanied by his wife Smt. Sadhana Singh Chouhan, was warmly received by the Chief Minister and other dignitaries upon his arrival in the state. Referring to Tripura as the “sacred land of Mata Tripura Sundari,” Dr. Saha expressed his pleasure in hosting the Union Minister and highlighted the importance of the visit in advancing developmental initiatives that directly benefit farmers and rural communities.

According to officials, the visit provided an opportunity for detailed discussions on agricultural growth, rural infrastructure, livelihood enhancement and the effective implementation of various centrally sponsored schemes in Tripura. The meeting reflected the shared commitment of both the Central and State governments to improving the socio-economic conditions of farmers and accelerating rural development.

Addressing the occasion, Dr. Saha said agriculture remains one of the most important sectors of Tripura’s economy, supporting a large segment of the population. He noted that the state government has been actively working to improve agricultural productivity, promote modern farming techniques and strengthen support systems for farmers.

“The visit of the Union Agriculture Minister is a matter of great significance for Tripura. His guidance and support will further strengthen our efforts to improve the lives of farmers and promote sustainable rural development,” the Chief Minister said.

Dr. Saha emphasized that the state government is focused on empowering farmers through better infrastructure, improved market access, technological interventions and welfare schemes. He added that strengthening rural livelihoods remains a key component of Tripura’s development agenda.

In a separate statement, Union Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan described his interaction with the Chief Minister as warm and meaningful. He praised Dr. Saha as a dedicated and popular leader and said the discussions covered several important issues related to agriculture, rural development and farmers’ welfare.

The two leaders reportedly reviewed ongoing developmental initiatives and explored ways to enhance coordination between the Centre and the state for the effective implementation of agricultural and rural development programmes. They also discussed opportunities to strengthen support mechanisms for farmers and promote sustainable growth in the agricultural sector.

Officials noted that Tripura has been making steady progress in agricultural diversification, horticulture, organic farming and allied sectors. The state has also been implementing various schemes aimed at increasing farmers’ income and improving rural infrastructure. The visit of the Union Minister is expected to provide additional momentum to these efforts.

Agriculture continues to be a major driver of economic activity in Tripura, with thousands of families dependent on farming and allied occupations for their livelihoods. Government initiatives in recent years have focused on improving irrigation facilities, enhancing productivity, promoting farmer-producer organizations and encouraging the adoption of modern agricultural practices.
