Addressing the gathering, the Chief Guest described O Dôh Ku as an important and unique festival of the Mara youth, which is not widely known among the general public. He explained that in earlier times, after the harvest season, young men and women would visit selected households in their village, seeking permission to enter and celebrate with music, dance, and feasting. Families considered it an honour to host the youth and willingly supported the festivities.
Pu S. Lalremthanga emphasised the importance of preserving traditional customs and cultural heritage within the framework of present-day values. He also acknowledged the significant role of Akashvani Community Radio Service, Siaha, in reviving and promoting lesser-known cultural practices of the Mara community.
Guest of Honour Pu D.R. Lalropuia highlighted the need to safeguard indigenous language and culture, noting that voluntary organisations and media institutions like Akashvani have a crucial responsibility in this regard. He also spoke about public health awareness, observing that while developed nations enjoy higher life expectancy, there is a need for greater attention to health among local communities. He added that Akashvani Community Radio Siaha continues to expand its outreach through Facebook and YouTube live broadcasts.
