The initiative, titled “Walking with Purpose,” was undertaken by Welkin Stone Shadap of East Khasi Hills, Kyrsoijingtip Ryntathiang of Ri-Bhoi district and Bashaiphar Shylla of Eastern West Khasi Hills. The journey began from Tura on January 26 and concluded at Khyndailad in Shillong on Tuesday, covering the distance in seven days.
The trio walked between 35 and 50 kilometres daily, passing through several areas including Nongstoin, despite challenging terrain and long hours on the road. Speaking after completing the walk, Shadap said the initiative was a response to the growing challenges faced by today’s youth, particularly substance abuse.
“This walk is our response to the issues confronting young people today. Discipline, focus and choosing the right friendships are crucial to staying on a positive path,” he said.
The group had initially planned a 10-day journey. They travelled to Tura on January 24, stayed there on January 25, and began the walk early on January 26. Through the initiative, the team aimed to inspire youth across Meghalaya to adopt healthier lifestyles and make responsible life choices.

The participants said they plan to continue similar activities in the future, including cycling expeditions and mountain climbing, to further promote a drug-free and goal-oriented lifestyle among young people.
The team expressed gratitude to government departments, educational institutions and local communities for their support, describing the initiative as a small but meaningful step towards building a healthier and more responsible society in Meghalaya.
