Agartala, February 3: Tripura Chief Minister Prof. (Dr.) Manik Saha on Tuesday attended and addressed the 3rd Regional Workshop under the State Support Mission of NITI Aayog in Agartala, emphasizing the importance of good governance, citizen-centric administration and effective public service delivery in achieving sustainable development and improving people's lives.
The workshop brought together senior government officials, policymakers, administrators and representatives from various Eastern and North-Eastern states and Union Territories. Organised in collaboration with the Tripura Institute of Technology Foundation (TIFT) and supported by NITI Aayog, the event served as a platform for exchanging ideas, sharing best practices and discussing innovative approaches to governance.
Addressing the gathering, Dr. Saha said governance is not merely about institutions, rules or administrative procedures but fundamentally about improving the quality of life of citizens. He stressed that the true measure of governance lies in its ability to ensure that development reaches every section of society, particularly those living in remote and underserved areas.
“Governance is ultimately about people. Our goal should be to ensure that the benefits of development reach the last mile and that every citizen feels the positive impact of government initiatives,” the Chief Minister said.
Dr. Saha noted that the vision of Prime Minister Narendra Modi places strong emphasis on inclusive development, transparency and accountability. He said governments at all levels must work towards building systems that are responsive, efficient and capable of addressing the evolving needs of citizens.
The workshop focused on the core principles of good governance, including transparency, accountability, efficiency, responsiveness, innovation and citizen participation. Participants discussed strategies to strengthen administrative frameworks, improve service delivery mechanisms and leverage technology to make governance more effective and accessible.
Highlighting the significance of the State Support Mission, Dr. Saha said such initiatives play a crucial role in strengthening governance capacities and fostering collaboration among states and Union Territories. He noted that the sharing of successful models and experiences enables governments to learn from one another and adapt proven solutions to local challenges.
“Platforms like these provide valuable opportunities for capacity building and knowledge-sharing. By learning from each other’s experiences, we can develop more effective governance systems and deliver better outcomes for our citizens,” he said.
The Chief Minister also highlighted Tripura’s efforts to modernize governance through the use of digital technology, improved administrative practices and people-focused policies. He said the state government has been working to enhance transparency, simplify procedures and strengthen service delivery across sectors such as healthcare, education, social welfare and infrastructure development.
Officials participating in the workshop discussed a range of topics related to governance reforms, policy implementation, digital transformation and institutional capacity building. Experts emphasized the need for data-driven decision-making, inter-departmental coordination and continuous innovation to meet the growing expectations of citizens.
