79th Chakhesang Students Union General Conference Begins at Zuketsa

Zuketsa, Phek, February 3: The 79th General Conference of the Chakhesang Students Union (CSU) commenced on Tuesday evening at Zuketsa in Phek district, with the theme “Nurturing identity through knowledge and culture.” The conference will be held from February 3 to 5.

Former minister Neiba Kronu attended the opening session as the introductory guest. Addressing the gathering, Kronu emphasised the importance of time, discipline and seriousness of purpose in student life. He said participation in such conferences should be viewed as an opportunity to dream big, reflect deeply and return with a renewed sense of responsibility to spread positive values in society.

Highlighting that the academic phase is the most crucial period in a student’s life, Kronu urged students to give top priority to their studies. He cautioned that falling behind academically could result in lifelong struggles and missed opportunities. He also noted that today’s world offers vast employment opportunities beyond traditional government jobs, pointing out that multinational companies often offer salaries several times higher. He stressed the need for students to equip themselves with the right skills, knowledge and mindset to compete globally.

The session featured greetings from All Sumi Students Union president Gihuka Zhimo. The programme was led by CSU tribunal Rite Khutsoh, while the welcome address was delivered by Kupelhi Losou, Convenor of the Local Organising Committee. CSU General Secretary Kuzoto Swuro presented the general secretary’s report, and CSU Vice President Povozo Soho introduced the CSU units. The Chakhesang Women Welfare Society presented a segment on traditional attire, followed by the CSU Union Assembly.

Nagaland Deputy Chief Minister T R Zeliang will attend as the inaugural guest on February 4, with Kudecho Khamo, Advisor for CAWD and Taxes, as the guest of honour. L Dikho, MLA of the 48 Mao Assembly Constituency in Manipur, will attend as the cultural guest later in the day.

A panel discussion on “Indo-Naga Political Talks: The vision and its prospects” is scheduled for February 4, with panellists including Lt Col (Retd) Neipfupe (Ape) Venuh of NSCN/GPRN, Alezo Venuh, Ato Kilonser of GPRN/NSCN (U), and Acüyi Vadeo, Joint Secretary of NNC.

The conference will conclude on February 5 with the valedictory session, featuring senior leaders, academicians and student representatives, alongside seminars on entrepreneurship and competitive examinations.
