Agartala, February 1: Tripura Chief Minister Prof. (Dr.) Manik Saha on Sunday welcomed 153 voters from different political parties into the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) during a joining programme held at Burakha, asserting that the growing support for the party reflects public confidence in its commitment to development, good governance and inclusive welfare.

The joining programme was organised in connection with the upcoming elections to the Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council (TTAADC) and witnessed the participation of a large number of indigenous residents, party workers and supporters. The newly inducted members were formally welcomed into the BJP fold by the Chief Minister, who described their decision as an endorsement of the government's development-oriented policies.

Addressing the gathering at Burakha Market, Dr. Saha expressed confidence that the BJP would perform strongly in the TTAADC elections and set an ambitious target of winning all 28 seats in the council. He said the indigenous communities of Tripura are increasingly recognising the importance of stable governance and coordinated development efforts.

“The people have realised that true and all-round development is possible only when there is a strong mandate for development-oriented governance. The BJP is committed to ensuring progress in every sector and every region,” the Chief Minister said.

Dr. Saha alleged that tribal communities were neglected under previous governments and claimed that years of unrest and political instability had hindered development in many indigenous areas. Referring to incidents of violence during earlier administrations, he said such circumstances had adversely affected social and economic progress.

He stressed that peace and stability are essential prerequisites for development and asserted that the state's law and order situation has improved considerably in recent years. According to the Chief Minister, improved security and administrative stability have created a more favourable environment for infrastructure development, investment and welfare initiatives.

“If peace is not there, development is not possible. We have worked to ensure a peaceful environment where people can focus on education, livelihoods and progress,” he said.

The Chief Minister also highlighted Tripura's developmental achievements, stating that the state has made significant progress across multiple sectors. He referred to assessments by NITI Aayog, which have placed Tripura among the frontrunner states in several development indicators. He attributed these improvements to policies implemented by the BJP-led governments at both the Centre and the state under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Speaking about the development of the TTAADC region, Dr. Saha emphasized the importance of cooperation between the autonomous council and the state government. He argued that meaningful development in tribal areas requires close coordination and support from the state administration, particularly in attracting investments and implementing major infrastructure projects.

“The development of ADC areas cannot happen in isolation. Coordination between the council and the state government is essential to ensure that projects are implemented effectively and investments are encouraged,” he said.

The Chief Minister further pointed out that more than 40 per cent of the state's budget for the financial year 2025–26 has been allocated for the development of tribal areas. He described the allocation as evidence of the government's commitment to improving infrastructure, education, healthcare, livelihood opportunities and social welfare services in indigenous regions.

Dr. Saha urged voters to support BJP candidates in the upcoming TTAADC elections, arguing that a decisive mandate would enable faster implementation of development programmes and create greater opportunities for future generations. He said the government's focus remains on ensuring inclusive growth, preserving indigenous identity and improving the quality of life for people living in tribal areas.

The programme concluded with the formal induction of the new members into the BJP, amid slogans and expressions of support from party workers. Political observers noted that the event forms part of the BJP's broader campaign strategy ahead of the TTAADC elections, where development, governance and tribal welfare are expected to be key issues.

As the election campaign gains momentum, the Chief Minister reiterated his confidence that the people of the ADC region would support the party's vision for development and contribute to building a more prosperous and progressive Tripura.
