Meghalaya: Developmental Projects Under Saipung C&RD Block Inspected in East Jaintia Hills

Khliehriat, February 2, 2026: Sutnga–Saipung MLA Santa Mary Shylla on Monday conducted a comprehensive day-long inspection of various ongoing and completed developmental projects in Sumer areas under the Saipung C&RD Block, aimed at reviewing progress, assessing implementation challenges and ensuring quality execution for public benefit.

The inspection was carried out in the presence of Deputy Commissioner, East Jaintia Hills District, Manish Kumar, IAS; Block Development Officer, Saipung C&RD Block, Dr R. Pyrtuh; Executive Engineer (PWD Roads), Khliehriat Division, G. Langstang; Engineer, District Mineral Foundation Trust, Dapmain Nongtdu; District Project Manager, District Project Management Unit (MBMA), Pynhunlang War; along with other officials, contractors and village representatives.

The inspection primarily focused on road connectivity projects, including the Sutnga–Sumer road and the construction of an RCC bridge under the Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana (PMGSY), connecting Samasi, Moolait and Mookhain villages. The exercise aimed to assess project status, identify implementation challenges and address public concerns related to infrastructure quality.

During interactions with community leaders, concerns were raised regarding the quality of blacktopping in certain stretches, the need for retaining walls at vulnerable locations and the construction of proper roadside drainage in areas prone to heavy water flow. The MLA urged contractors to execute works with utmost precision and adhere strictly to technical standards to ensure durability and safety.

The MLA, along with district officials, also inspected the Samasi Market project implemented by the Meghalaya Basin Development Agency (MBDA) under the MEGHLAMP project in convergence with the North Eastern Council (NEC). The project has received funding of Rs. 40.48 lakh from MBDA and Rs. 50 lakh from NEC. While some components have been completed, others remain pending, and departments concerned were directed to expedite the remaining works. The project includes a Collective Marketing Centre to help farmers store and market their produce effectively.

The inspection further covered Samasi and Pala Health Sub-Centres to ensure the availability of doctors, medicines and basic health facilities. The Digital Library at Samasi village, constructed through the Saipung C&RD Block office, and a Futsal Ground built under the District Mineral Foundation (DMF) Scheme were also reviewed.

Other key sites inspected included the Bri Manar Bridge at Samasi village, construction of an artificial football ground and an Anganwadi Centre at Krem Myrsiang village, and the proposed site for the construction of Jalaphet Government College.
