Assam Chief Minister Inaugurates Madhabdev University Campus and Cultural Centre in Lakhimpur

Lakhimpur, February 3: Assam Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma on Tuesday inaugurated the newly constructed campus of Madhabdev University at Narayanpur in Lakhimpur district, marking a major milestone in the state's ongoing efforts to strengthen higher education infrastructure. On the same day, he also inaugurated the Sri Sri Badala Padma Ata Kalatirtha, a modern cultural centre expected to become a hub for artistic and cultural activities in Upper Assam.

Developed across 55 bighas of land at an estimated cost of nearly ₹57 crore, the new Madhabdev University campus features a modern four-storey academic building, residential quarters for the Vice Chancellor, Registrar, and faculty members, a two-storey guest house, and a grand entrance gate. The state-of-the-art infrastructure is designed to provide a conducive academic environment for students and faculty while supporting the university's future expansion.

Addressing a large gathering during the inauguration ceremony, the Chief Minister announced an additional allocation of ₹75 crore for the second phase of the university's development. He said the funds would be utilised to further expand academic and residential infrastructure, enabling the institution to emerge as a premier centre for higher education and research in the region.

Later, Dr. Sarma inaugurated the Sri Sri Badala Padma Ata Kalatirtha at the Sri Sri Madhabdev Kalakshetra in Narayanpur. Constructed at a cost of ₹22 crore, the facility includes a 681-seat auditorium equipped with advanced acoustics, modern stage lighting, mechanised curtains, and a large LED display, making it one of the finest cultural venues in the state.

The Chief Minister described the Kalatirtha as a major addition to Assam's cultural infrastructure, saying it would provide a platform for theatre, music, dance, literary events, and other artistic performances while preserving the rich cultural traditions associated with the region.

Officials termed the twin inaugurations a landmark day for Lakhimpur, reflecting the Assam Government's vision of promoting balanced development through investments in both education and culture. They said the projects would enhance learning opportunities, encourage cultural exchange, generate employment, and contribute to the district's socio-economic development.

The initiatives underscore the government's commitment to creating world-class educational institutions and cultural facilities, positioning Assam as a leading centre for knowledge, heritage, and holistic regional development.
