The vehicle distribution programme was organised by the Mizoram State Rural Livelihoods Mission (MzSRLM) in collaboration with the Rural Development and Administration Department at the MINECO Open Gym in Aizawl. A total of 19 vehicles, comprising 17 Mahindra Pik-Up trucks and two Maruti Super Carry vans, were handed over to beneficiaries from 12 Rural Development Blocks across the state, including Lungsen, Aibawk, Khawbung, Lunglei, and several other areas.
Addressing the gathering, Lalnilawma described the event as one of the most rewarding moments of his public service career. Reflecting on the early implementation of MzSRLM in Mizoram, he recalled the challenges faced during the initial stages and expressed satisfaction at the progress achieved by SHG members over the years.
The minister praised rural women and SHG members for their growing involvement in entrepreneurship, income-generating activities, and community development initiatives. He noted that many groups have successfully expanded their businesses and strengthened their economic independence through support provided under various rural livelihood programmes.
Lalnilawma urged the beneficiaries to utilise the vehicles responsibly and ensure proper maintenance to maximise their long-term benefits. He also stressed the importance of timely loan repayment, regular insurance renewal, and compliance with pollution and vehicle safety regulations.
The Aajeevika Grameen Express Yojana (AGEY) was launched in August 2017 under the Deendayal Antyodaya Yojana–National Rural Livelihoods Mission (DAY-NRLM). The scheme aims to provide sustainable livelihood opportunities to SHG members by enabling them to operate transportation services in rural areas. These services help improve connectivity to markets, schools, healthcare centres, and other essential facilities, particularly in underserved regions.

Officials informed that during 2017–18, a total of 48 vehicles were distributed to beneficiaries across 12 RD Blocks under the same scheme. Under AGEY, financial assistance is channelled through Cluster Level Federations (CLFs), allowing SHG members to procure vehicles through interest-free loans repayable over six years.
The initiative is expected to enhance rural mobility, generate additional income for SHG members, create employment opportunities, and improve last-mile connectivity throughout Mizoram. Officials expressed confidence that the scheme will continue to play a vital role in empowering rural communities and supporting inclusive economic development across the state.
