Aizawl, Feb 17, 2026: Mizoram has recorded an unprecedented rise in tourist arrivals, emerging as the fastest-growing tourism destination among the Northeastern states. The development was highlighted in the Mizoram Legislative Assembly on Monday, where Governor Vijay Kumar Singh informed members about the state's remarkable performance in the tourism sector during 2025.

According to the figures presented, a total of 6,79,607 tourists visited Mizoram between April and December 2025, reflecting a substantial increase over previous years. Of the total visitors, 6,70,001 were domestic and local tourists, while 9,606 were foreign visitors, indicating growing interest in the state from both national and international travellers.
The Governor stated that the tourist footfall recorded during the nine-month period has already exceeded the total number of visitors registered during the entire previous financial year. The increase represents a 29.50 percent growth, highlighting the rapid expansion of Mizoram’s tourism industry and the state's rising popularity as a travel destination.
One of the most notable achievements was recorded in December 2025, when Mizoram witnessed its highest-ever monthly tourist footfall. A total of 1,33,520 tourists visited the state during the month, representing an impressive 122.11 percent increase compared to December of the previous year. The record-breaking figures underscore the growing appeal of Mizoram’s natural beauty, cultural heritage, and emerging tourism infrastructure.

Officials attributed the surge in tourist arrivals to a combination of factors, including improved connectivity, enhanced tourism promotion campaigns, growing awareness of Mizoram’s unique attractions, and efforts by the state government to develop tourism-friendly infrastructure. The state's scenic landscapes, vibrant cultural traditions, festivals, and eco-tourism destinations have increasingly attracted visitors from across India and abroad.
The Governor noted that Mizoram’s tourism sector has become an important contributor to economic growth, generating employment opportunities and supporting local businesses, including hotels, homestays, transport operators, handicraft producers, and entrepreneurs.
With the latest figures placing Mizoram among the fastest-growing tourism destinations in the Northeast, the state government is expected to continue investing in tourism infrastructure, destination development, and promotional activities. Officials expressed optimism that the sector will maintain its growth momentum and play a key role in strengthening Mizoram’s economy while showcasing its rich cultural and natural heritage to the world.
