Itanagar, February 17: Pema Khandu on Tuesday congratulated Ms Akbari Khatoon of Tawang for clinching the National Gold Medal in the 56 kg category at the WPC National Powerlifting Championship 2026 held in Noida.

Born and brought up in Tawang and fluent in Monpa, Akbari delivered an impressive overall performance, registering lifts of 110 kg in Squat, 42.5 kg in Bench Press, and 117.5 kg in Deadlift to secure the top podium finish.

Her victory marks a remarkable journey from District Champion to State Strong Woman, and now National Champion, earning her the opportunity to represent India at the international level.
Khandu lauded her achievement, stating that she has made Arunachal Pradesh proud and extended his best wishes for her future competitions.
Akbari’s triumph has been widely celebrated in Tawang, with sports enthusiasts hailing her as an inspiration for young athletes across the state.
