Meghalaya Cabinet Announces GHADC Elections on April 10, 2026

Shillong: The Meghalaya Cabinet has announced that elections to the Garo Hills Autonomous District Council (GHADC) will be held on April 10, 2026.

Polling for the council is scheduled for April 10, while the counting of votes will take place on April 14, 2026.

As per the election schedule approved by the Cabinet, the official gazette notification will be issued on March 9, 2026. The last date for filing nomination papers has been fixed for March 16, 2026.

Scrutiny of nominations will be conducted on March 16 after 3:00 PM. Candidates will be allowed to withdraw their candidature until March 17, 2026.

The final list of validly nominated candidates, along with the allotment of election symbols, will be completed and published by March 18, 2026.

The upcoming GHADC polls are expected to witness keen political contest across the Garo Hills region, with parties gearing up for an intense campaign in the run-up to the elections.
